Difference between a Dentist and Endodontic Office
Endodontics from our dental office can save your tooth from an undesirable outcome. If you have an infected tooth root or dental pulp, we can remove the infection and fix your tooth before it suffers from irreversible damage. We specialize in performing root canals, and we have the vast knowledge and experience necessary to do so. To learn more about what your tooth is made up of and why it is important to remove an infection, continue reading.
When the Safety of Your Tooth is Compromised:
The tooth consists of a crown and a root. The crown is the visible area of the tooth, and the root is what holds it in place underneath the gum line. Inside the encasement of the tooth lies the dental pulp that consists of nerves, tissues, and blood vessels. With decay, periodontal disease (also known as gum disease), cracks or other dental issues, leave the inside of the tooth vulnerable to bacteria and infection. However, the dental pulp can become infected or inflamed. When this happens, the patient will experience discomfort and potentially an abscess if the infection causes pus to develop. The teeth need treatment since endodontics can prevent the death of the tooth or other detrimental side effects.
Endodontics: The Treatment
When the tooth reaches this dangerous point, we must remove the infection or the patient will lose the tooth and endanger the rest of the dental structure. During our root canal treatment, we will remove the infection and the damaged pulp from the inside of the tooth using specialized tools that can access these small spaces. Once we remove the infection, we will fill the interior of the tooth with a rubberized substance called gutta-percha. The substance will protect the tooth to prevent further infection. We will complete this procedure with an inlay, onlay, or crown.
Once we complete the endodontic treatment, the patient will be able to use the tooth as a regular tooth with proper oral hygiene and dental visits. Our root canal treatments are discomfort free and will not take long. As soon as we complete the treatment, the patient will notice a decline in pressure and discomfort. Following treatment, the patient may experience slight soreness or tenderness as the tooth heals.
Why Keeping Your Natural Tooth Should Be a Priority:
It is a priority for us to save your natural tooth. Keeping your tooth will allow you to chew naturally, smile freely, and retain the beautiful appearance of your dental structure. If you lose your tooth, you will face more expensive dental costs to replace the tooth and to treat other teeth that have been affected by the strain that the loss of your tooth has caused. If you are experiencing discomfort, swelling, bleeding, or other concerning symptoms, call us at (805) 686-2492 for endodontics. No replacement is as strong and as permanent as your original tooth and we can help to save it.
